Keep your home clean

Mice are normally attracted to places where there is clutter where they will not be disturbed and where there is plenty of access to food. Keeping a clutter free home is a good start to preventing mice. Now is the time to clear out the basement or reorganize that loft. In the kitchen keep the lid on that bin and make sure that food kept in the units low down are sealed in rodent proof containers. The kitchen is the main place where mice will infest and from here they will spread to other areas of the property so it is important that it is clean and free from food scraps that can attract mice.

Do Not Leave Food Out

Mice are only out in the open when they are searching for food. Do not leave food out on the counters or table. Put all crackers, breads, and other grains in Ziploc plastic bags. Keep rice, pasta, and cereals in plastic containers. Wash your dishes as soon as possible after finishing a meal.

Mouse Traps, Poisons, and Sonic Repellants

For many people, the tried and tested true mouse trap works great. If you haven’t had much luck with these devices, try using peanut butter instead of cheese for the bait as this is a myth and only used in cartoons.

Poisons work well, but if you have children or pets, you really must use extreme caution about where you place it in you home. In addition, you never know where the mouse that eats the poison will die. That can make for a very smelly situation in your home. Poisons do not keep mice from returning to your home, either

From a pest control experts prospective sonic repellants dont work and are a comlete waste of money. These devices plug into the wall and are supposed to emit a high frequency to repel the mice from your home. Many of these repellants are also supposed get rid of other nuisances too, such as roaches, ants, and spiders. In our opinion these devices are a big con as we come across them in houses of customers we treat where they have not worked and they have called in the experts. Professional companies would use these devices if they worked as it would certainly make our job a lot easier. These units are designed for the consumer market who have little or no knowledge of how they work.
